History Comes Alive

I have been neck-deep in historical research for the past three years. Much of it involves the Iroquois, specifically in the Mohawk Valley, and during the period of the French & Indian War. These wonderful paintings have brought history alive for me. In my other life I, too, am an artist and feel so fortunate to have found Robert Griffing's work. Even if this book contained just one of his prints, it would have made the cost of this no-longer-published book worth every penny. They are that good. After finding volume two at the Ft. Stanwix gift shop I was determined to find myself a copy of volume one. I am extremely pleased to have them both now and sincerely hope that Mr. Griffing will be painting for many years to come.

Great book..less than explicit condition description

Let me get through the 'negative' aspect of my review which has absolutely nothing to do with the content of the book. I purchased this book via Amazon through a secondary seller. My one beef has to do with the description of the condition of the book which,it turns out, was somewhat of a generic disclaimer that could have been applied to any number of used books. Overall, I would say that it was a fair description with one exception - this particular book did not have its dust jacket. Knowing that it did not might have made me reconsider my selection. I might have purchased a copy from another seller. There ought to be more candor. That aside, the condition of book was as described and for that I have no complaint.
Content-wise this book, now out of print, is in high demand to folks interested in art and the history of the eastern woodlands Indian, the history of the period of North American history between the French and Indian War and Revolutionary War. The text is well written and engaging while the masterful artwork of Robert Griffing bring the words to life. Mr. Griffing adds his own insights into the creation of the images. For art students there is a brief description of the artist's working methodology.
I had the honor and opportunity of meeting and speaking to Mr. Griffing at a history conference at the Ft. Pitt Museum in Pittsburgh so I now own a signed copy of this now classic book. Someone there had a copy for sale, with cover intact.....I was sorely tempted. Anyone selling a dust jacket for this book? Let me know ha-ha.

Nice Book

I love Robert Griffing's work & already had his 2nd book, so got this one to complete my set. I plan to have him sign it the next time he is at the Seneca Iroquois National Museum. The seller was great -- shipped fast & well packaged.
