Your prayers are answered here

This is a God ordained and anointed book. I keep this book with me at all times. I read it daily to start my day. It meets me right where I am. I've never read or found a prophetic devotional book of this magnitude. I include the daily decree and declarations in my prayers. With each page it is like God is speaking directly to me. I've given this book to my daughter in the military as a devotional during her daily tour. This is a must have for your library.

Heaven Declares will jump start your morning and usher you into the presence of God. Never have I read such an on-time, right-now, relevant devotional. This book will minister to your daily needs and cause you to develop a greater seek for God. It's inspiring, encouraging, and anointed writing and an easy read. Each day keeps you in anticipation of what the next devotional day will read. You read each devotional with and expectation and every day my expectation was met and exceeded. I can't wait until his next book is published; Hakeem Collins is a great writer, I thank God for his obedience in writing this life changing devotional.

This book has exceeded my expectations. From the prophetic decrees to the prayers and devotional word. This book is like a daily dose of spiritual vitamins. It is a great start to your day and even a great way to end your day. The author put much thought into the layout and each decree that upon reading it, you would feel the impact. I am charged and encouraged every day I open it up. Definitely would recommend this book.

Cheapskate Bill Essler dumps Denise Bainbridge as his graduation-dance date so he doesn't have to spend his money on her. Furious when she then humiliates him in front of the entire school, he discovers a new computer web site, Curses, Inc., and chooses from a menu of spells to make Denise's life miserable. However, the curses never seem to have their desired effect and Bill's bank account quickly dwindles. Other selections include a hilarious take on what might happen if humans could understand animals but animals still couldn't understand humans; meditations on vanity; and the moral question of whether or not it is right to take the life of someone who took yours?if you were raised from the dead. A strong theme of morality and making choices runs throughout the book. "Witch-Hunt," a fable about censorship, is sure to promote discussion. Vande Velde skillfully deceives readers into thinking that the story is taking place in the distant past, making the twist at the end all the more relevant. The author writes about her inspiration for each tale in a short afterword, giving teens insight into the perennial question, "Where do you get your ideas?" An uneven collection of ten short stories by Vande Velde (Tales from the Brothers Grimm and the Sisters Weird, 1995, etc.) that treats spell-casting in modern, historical, and timeless settings. The title story is a breezy computer tale, in which eighth- grader Bill outrages a girl by uninviting her to a dance at the last minute. Her subsequent treatment of him inspires him to order a curse from an on-line service that will cause her dog to be lost for a period of time for a fee. That curse, and each successive one, benefits her more, until a neat twist brings the clever tale to a close. Another ambitious tale, ``The Witch's Son,'' set in the time of the American Revolution, is well drawn and poignant, but suffers a weak ending. ``Remember Me,'' a strong story, presents food for thought about the link between memory and identity, and then backs away from a satisfying conclusion. The stories are least effective when imitating folk tales, and most effective when both plot and setting are vital enough to make an impression. Vande Velde is often amusing, and fans of the previous book will be entertained by this one, but an introduction and afterword about how the book came to be, who gave it a title, and where ideas come from sound superfluous and indulgent. Magically twisted short stories sure to please 'Potter' fans

These wonderful short stories are twisted, enjoyable fast reads that no Harry Potter fan should miss while waiting for book five to arrive. It has all kinds of witty witch stories, from the truly scary "Lost Soul" and "Past Sunset" to the laugh-out-loud funny "To Converse With the Dumb Beasts" and "Boy Witch." The off-the-wall fantasies engross readers from the beginning and don't let go even after the last page is turned. The forward and afterword from the author explaining her insperation and the collection's title are interesting, but don't add anything to the book and are at times bland, the reason this book only gets four stars. Still, they're not bad and you shouldn't skip them, especially if you become a fan of the book. All in all, a collection of short stories you won't want to pass up. Great, and highly reccomended!

A Terrific Collection of Short Stories

I am a 13 year old, and Im pretty new to short stories, but after I found this great book at my bookstore, I knew I was hooked. The title story is hilarious, and has a great ending. Vande Velde has a great sense for making funny, spooky, kooky and intelligent short stories, yet doesnt bore you or overdose on gore. I loved this book, and Ill be sure to get other books from Vivian Vabde Velde!

At first I couldn't stand how these stories end, but then I realized that if they ended the way I wished they would, they wouldn't be half as interesting or as thought-provoking. It would just be a well told, cliched archetype we've all heard a million times.

Richard Thorpe is Professor of Management Development and Pro Dean for Research at Leeds University Business School. His research interests have included: performance, entrepreneurship, knowledge and leadership as well as research methods in management research.� His early career as a management trainee on a Clarks programme informed the way his ethos has developed. Following a period in industry his first academic appointment was as a researcher at Strathclyde University in the Pay and Reward Research Centre. There, as a consequence of the research conducted he developed close links with practitioners, intermediaries and policy makers, something he has strived to maintain as his career progressed. Common themes in his work are: a strong commitment to conducting research in collaboration with practitioners; a focus on action and change; an interest in and commitment to the development of doctoral students and the development of capacity within the sector. Richard has been past president and chair of the British Academy of Management and member of the ESRC Training and Development Board. He is currently chair of the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies.

For a resource text book, lacks page numbers

Purchased the Kindle edition for my current Msc studies and had intended to use it on my Ipad. However only noticed when wanting to cite information that the Kindle version does not have page numbers like the printed version.

Whilst it contains all the information of the printed version, it is useless for citation purposes. So now I have to invest double to obtain a printed version just to be able to cite/reference sections of the material in the publication.

With this collection of 30-odd pieces (all previously published in a half-dozen magazine and newspapers), Lewis (Liar's Poker, 1989) stakes a further claim to being the wittiest critic of private enterprise since the pseudonymous ``Adam Smith'' was plying his merry trade during the go-go 1960's. Young, gifted, and glib, the author delivers a wealth of deliciously wicked profiles on contemporary Wall Streeters, their offshore counterparts, and other predatory notables whose status is dollar denominated. Among others, he dispatches nouveau-riche Australians, Japan's kamikaze capitalists, TV-personality Louis Rukeyser (the nominal sponsor of seaborne investment seminars remarkable mainly for their ship-of-fools quality), the juvenile delinquents whose passion for speculating in financial futures has convulsed the Paris bourse, Donald Trump, LBO accessories, and other fast-trackers who show little care for socioeconomic consequences. Though largely informed by the serious purpose of capturing instances of greed, pretension, and wretched excess in the global financial village, Lewis's often antic reportage goes down with deceptive ease. A delightfully light touch is evident even in his assessment of such weighty subjects as what havoc a natural disaster (e.g., an earthquake) in Tokyo could wreak on the world's capital markets. Not every entry is a winner; there is, for example, an overlong and not very original expos‚ on the putatively upscale charge cards merchandised by American Express. A Mediocre Anthology

This collection of previously published articles is at times very funny, insightful, and a good primer on several financial issues that dominated the 1980's, but it can also be repetitive (many of the articles repeat jokes, anecdotes, and some even seem to be slightly altered version of previous articles)and is quite dated since the articles detail financial events and characters of the mid to late 1980's. I learned a fair amount about the savings and loan scandals, leveraged buy outs, and the Japanese economic miracle and collapse, and also enjoyed some amusing tales of financial excess, but I had to read through a lot of less than interesting pages to find those treasures. I would not recommend someone buy this book, but if you can find it in the library, it is certainly worth flipping through it.

Not Lewis's Best Work

Michael Lewis wrote one of the great popular books about Wall Street, Liar's Poker: Rising Through the Wreckage on Wall Street. It is a classic of what life was like on Wall Street during the time when mortgage backed securities, something we're hearing a lot about currently, was just getting off the ground. He also wrote the bestseller Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game, which is a great baseball book. This collection of pieces written right before and after Liar's Poker is all right, but it is not his best work.

I have a high tolerance for bad writing if I am interested in the subject manner, but even I had trouble getting through some of the early pieces in here. Perhaps Lewis had to get all this poor sophomoric writing out of his system before he could write decent books. If the pieces collected in Money Culture are what it takes to get to Moneyball, then so be it.

Still, from a reader's standpoint, don't bother with this one, read Liar's Poker and Moneyball instead.

Good, entertaining reading about finance issues in the 80's

This is a collection of essays previously published in newspapers and magazines around the nation where some 10 years ago we could witness Lewis' early literary attempts. The book was consistently funny, insightful, and a good primer on several financial issues that dominated the 1980's. Most of these articles, for those interested in the authors' chronological history, came after he wrote his groundbreaking financial humor book entitled Liars Poker, which is regarded as a "must read" for anyone entering into the investment banking industry, particularly in bond trading where we he worked.
Mr. Lewis' writing style is great, which is why I read his book entitled Next, another good read if you are interested. Most of the topics in this book cover financial/business culture issues that date back during the late eighties, so there's also a bit of historical perspective to it.
The topics are a wide array and include stories about the domestic S&L scandal, some events that occurred in the French Bourse (their word for a stock market), the proliferation of the American Express Card during the 1980s, some offshore banking insights, Louis Rukeyser, Donald Trump, LBO stories and some comments on the Japanese capitalists. Like I said, he talks about a wide array of topics but remember that the book is a compilation of many articles.
I give it a 4 star rating. It was highly entertaining but nothing that caused my life to change or caused me to have a "light bulb" go off in my head.

The first section also highlights the role of omics in modern clinical trials and even discusses the ethical consideration in pharmocogenomics. The second section is focusing on the development of personalized medicine in several areas of human health. The topics covered range from metabolic and neurological disorders to non-communicable as well as infectious diseases, and even explores the role of pharmacogenomics in cell therapy and transplantation technology. Thirty-four chapters of the book cover several aspects of pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine and have taken into consideration the varied interest of the readers from different fields of biomedical research and medicine. Advent of pharmacogenomics is the future of modern medicine, which has resulted from culmination of decades of research and now is showing the way forward. The book is an honest endeavour of researchers from all over the world to disseminate the latest knowledge and knowhow in personalized medicine to the community health researchers in particular and the educated public in general.

About the Author

Debmalya Barh is the Founder and President of the Institute of Integrative Omics and Applied Biotechnology (IIOAB), India, and a consultant biotechnologist having international repute. He is an active researcher in multidisciplinary “omics” fields that include biomarkers, target and targeted drug discovery, pharmacogenomics, neutrigenomics, neuroscience, cancer, and cardiovascular, infectious, and metabolic diseases. He works with nearly 300 researchers from 18 to 20 countries and has published more than 100 papers. He is a well known editor for many research reference books in the foremost domains of “Omics” published by top-ranked international publishers.
Dipali Dhawan is a promising researcher in the field of Pharmacogenomics, and Induced Pluripotent and Cancer Stem Cells. A postgraduate in Molecular and Genetic Medicine from University of Sheffield, UK and a PhD in Biotechnology from Nirma University, India, Dr. Dhawan is presently associated with the Institute of Life Sciences, Ahmedabad University, India. She has published many research works and has also been awarded CSIR and DST fellowships.

Prof. Nirmal Kumar Ganguly is a distinguished Biotechnology Research Professor, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), GoI. He is the President of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), as well as that of the Asian Institute of Public Health, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He is the former Director General of ICMR, New Delhi, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, and National Institute of Biologicals (NIB), Noida. He has published 757 research papers. His major areas of research have been Tropical Diseases, Cardiovascular Diseases and Diarrhoeal Diseases. He has received 116 Awards, including 6 International and 110 National Awards. He has been honored with the prestigious Padma Bhushan Award by Her Excellency, the President of India on 26th January 2008 in the field of “Medicine”.

Great question book

Been using this to study for my upcoming exam. It is not really a review book, but is still nice to have. There is no learning content, it is only questions. My school used Fitzgerald to death, so I was looking for some fresh questions and this delivered.
