David Fideler holds a Ph.D. in philosophy and the history of science and cosmology. Clean & Elegant rendition of inspiring poetry

I delayed picking this book up for awhile after it came out - I'm not usually one for poetry. It was my loss, and a great one at that.

This volume of thought-provoking and inspirational writings by many great Sufi poets is of immense value to spiritual folks of any faith as well as those who simply appreciate fine poetry. The translation by David & Sabrineh Fideler is very clean and sparing - spartan while still exhibiting an elegance that only comes from both knowledge of the language as well as the meanings intended by the authors.

It's really rare that a compendium of poetry can serve admirably both for leisure reading and academic study, but they've really pulled it off here. The included glossary also helps to explain Sufi symbolism to the reader unacquainted with such things, and thus the work can also serve well as a da'wa tool.

To sum it up, I highly recommend this book & thank the translators for the excellent job they have done here.

An Exceptional Collection of Poetry

This is an exceptional collection of Sufi poetry from a wide range of writers, some well known in the West and some fairly obscure. David and Sabrineh Fideler's translations are lovely and straight forward, and their choice of poems benefit both newcomers to Sufism and those looking for the deepest truths. Highly recommended.

Picchi's Ethnographic Study of The Bakairi

Debra Picchi does a very good job of revealing the history and culture of the Bakairi Indians, a culture that has managed to survive the ravages of European invasion and colonialism since the late 15th Century. She writes with a clarity and sensitivity rare in today's often convoluted ethnographic prose and only rarely ventures into obtuse theoretical academic anthrospeak. These brave people have managed to hold their culture through centuries of disease, murder, encroachment, and acculturation, and Debra Picchi does an admirable job of telling their story and giving them a voice to the world.

He is a Master Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and a Lean Master. He has 34 years of experience conducting kaizens in pharmaceutical, chemical, plastics, banking, consumer products, software development, electronics, and automotive industries. He also improved military-type processes within the US Army and Navy in Kuwait, Afghanistan, and the United States of America. In past positions, Pete has led research, development, manufacturing, and quality departments in companies within the plastics, chemicals, and electronic industries in the United States of America and Japan. He has earned 18 US patents on new products and processes.

The World of Continuous Process Improvement is Shaken Up

This is a real how to book. It dramatically transforms value stream mapping for the better. Pete's method should be the standard used by all continuous process improvement experts. The book itself is a clear step by step approach that can make anyone an expert in short order.

Full Disclosure: I worked with Pete as he developed and refined these methods, so I completely understand just how earthshaking this book is.

Process Maps and Swimlanes for year with great success (or so I thought)

When Pete showed me this mapping method I was very skeptical. After all I had been mapping using Value Steam Maps, Process Maps and Swimlanes for year with great success (or so I thought). Then a need arose at a client to map a very complicated administrative process with many, many options for flow, huge rework and very long cycle times. Using what I had done before I may have been able to get there, but by using the method Pete describes, we found an amazing number of opportunities for improvement immediately as we mapped the process using the Shingo method. The fact that you get so much information and detail from this method makes it a remarkably rich method for understanding and improving any process. Now that I have used this method on hundreds of processes, it is my go to method to achieve dramatic improvement. Once the map is complete it is easy to understand by anyone and at the same time can handle the most complicated processes and help you pinpoint the specific areas to start working on improvement.

Structured, Simple method for removing waste and improving ANY process.

As an engineer I have been designing and analyzing processes for almost 30 years. I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Gaa and learning his methods and I have not found anything else that works as well on ALL processes (manufacturing, service, administration). I have found most service and administrative processes are not documented and have very little, if any data. The Shingo-Style Process Map will allow you to gather the intellectual capital from the subject matter experts and use the data gathered from them, and walking the Gemba, to make significant improvements to any process.

A great introduction to database design!

Jan Harrington accomplishes her task neatly, to clearly explain relational database design. I was very pleased with how quickly I was able to grasp fundamental concepts and I would recommend this book to anyone getting started with databases. I had hoped that the book would be perfect and would clearly explain every relevant concept but that was not the case. When it came to the three interesting case studies that concluded the book, the author used concepts that were never explained - control-break layout, parent entities, ISAM file organization, repeating groups, reblocking files. While not understanding these concepts did not stop me from grasping the fundamentals of database design it was frustrating and made clear that this is an introductory text and not the last book to read on the subject. There were also about a dozen typos but these were disconcerting rather than misleading.

More Theory than Real World

The book really should have been titled: Relational Database Design Theory. It is a reasonable book for someone new to database design to read. It covers the terms and does a reasonable job explaning them in the 1st section. The 2nd section attempts to apply the design theory to real world examples. The book falls short in this area -- perhaps because the author was trying to stay platform independent and because he comes from an academic background.

I also purchased "Pro SQL Server 2000" by Louis Davidson. It provides the same background theory in a readable format and the examples are more "Real World".

Loved the Intrigue More Than Normal

I read a lot of gay books but not a lot of bondage ones. This one came recommended from a friend who has been interested in doing some of the same kinds of things, so he dared me to read it – I didn’t care one way or the other. I’ll read nearly anything, even if I think I won’t like it.

I was actually surprised to be turned on as much as I was though. I normally go for the vanilla sex stuff, but this was actually really good. I liked the way the author came up with all the different ways to tie the main character, and the steamy scenes – which was most of the book – were incredible for being fetish scenes. Maybe you could call me an agnostic BDSM lover. I can usually take it or leave it. In this case, it was definitely worth my time. And it was well written, which I always prefer.

I probably won’t read any more bondage books to be honest because it’s just not my cup of tea. Still, I really liked this one for being an excellent read for what it was.

I can see it being crack cocaine for someone that’s into gay bondage. Definitely recommended for them.

Breathtaking with a Twist!!!

I loved the characters in this book as well as the sex scenes. It’s definitely kinky and the author has a good imagination. I can tell he knows a lot about what he’s talking about with the rope work and bondage positions from the way he described them, and he was very creative with that.

The plot was good, but any plot could always be better, which is why I give it 4 stars instead of five. Each chapter seemed to follow a routine, hot as they all were. But to be honest, it’s hard to combine both an excellent plot and a sex story together. Still, the writer did a really good job of that and it’s as good a novel or better than any I have read in this genre. I’m not sure I get the whole recovery aspect of this book, but I read it for a good story and excellent BDSM scenes. I got both.

For what it’s worth, I would highly recommend it to men and women into M/M bondage scenarios that go well beyond boring. I see the author has another series out, and I’ll be reading that in the next few weeks. I look forward to it.

Hard Journey

Wow, just wow. This book starts out so dark and very erotic. You feel that Gary is one messed up man who can't seem to make up his mind about what he wants. The scene start out with consent but quickly deteriorate from that. I wasn't even sure if I could continue. I like a wide range of genre and sometimes I don't mind dark but man this just seemed so dark.

But I hate to give up on something and I'm so glad I didn't. About half way through you begin to see a small glimmer that something is changing inside of Gary and there might just be some hope for this lost young man.

The ending is so worth the journey. I don't want to give anything way so I don't want to say too much. But the story is realistic enough to be honest that Gary is still a work in progress but now you want to cheer him on.

I purchased this as a textbook for my History of Illustration class in college. In school, I used this baby as a paper weight. It became much more valuable after leaving college.

This is an excellent resource to explore different styles and to learn about artists that have otherwise been forgotten by history. I've read about plenty of artists in this book that had little more than a passing mention on the Internet. Even if you're not a big reader, this is an essential text for illustrators. It's made well. It even uses the artists' signatures as title headings, a nice touch!

As an illustrator myself, I really appreciate learning about the history of illustration, and finding new illustrators who may have lived over 100 years ago, but that I still have some kinship with either through subject matter or stylistically. Each small entry serves to be a point of research for any who might be interested.

Great book! I use this book practically everyday. If you don't have a copy of the USAF Stability and Control DATCOM, this book is probably the next best thing. He presents the DATCOM techniques for estimating aircraft stability derivatives. One of the most used books in my library!
