I liked this story.

Another reviewer said the story was slow. Well it is called the Slow Road. I enjoyed it because unlike other Prepper or survival stories, the main characters got prepared over a long period of time with very little money. Lots of hard work and motivation. I am feeling very lazy and inadequate after reading this.
There is a lot of useful info and ideas in this book. I even enjoyed all the detailed well drilling info since I want to try and add a shallow well to my land since the deep wells are now full of salt water.
I read this thru Kindle Unlimited so price was not an issue for me. I surely appreciate authors that put their books on KU. I am not sure I would be happy paying $2.99 for this length book normally. So for KU readers that love this genre, I think it is a good read. I think 99 cents is a more fair price for purchase.
I was impressed with the proofreading. So many books out there are so full of proofing mistakes that it drives me crazy.

Inspiration Tale of Successful Decisions Made

I enjoy Jerry D Young's books, I believe I've purchased all of them and have re read them each 4 or 5 times. we need more of them. I like his style of writing, I enjoy being able to read about the end of civilization as we know it, yet still intrepid preppers survive and sometimes thrive. Sometimes not, but in this book there is as most of Mr. Young's books a happy ending for those who take the time to plan and prepare for hard times that inevitably come.

This books is about Lessons In Life. Every paragraph has something to teach or nice advice on how to achieve goals and advance to a happy ending in life, regardless of what life throws at you. It doesn't delve into the nitty gritty, it just supplies in story form, healthy advice and recommendations on how you can get done what needs to be done.

Our hero gets just about everything thrown at him, personal weakness, traumatic medical issues, financial challenges, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, invasion, nuclear war. Together with his family they overcome these obstacles with stoic perseverance with a personal belief system that supports them, their city, neighborhood and friends as they go through many years ever improving their preparations and life styles.

It's a slow story about the day to day life of an everyman trying to do what is right for him and those who have his loyalty.

I personally recommend this tale as one of my special favorites in this genre, and still recommend this author uncategorically. The Author is very prolific, in several different styles, but easy to read and fun to check his information, recommendations of items and techniques.

Water wells and prepping

Many books on prepping involve a great deal of expense on materials, but some of Jerry Young’s books are about hard working blue collar workers doing what they can with the skills they have to prep for disaster. In Go with the Flow, Young had a young farmer build a bomb shelter on his acreage using discarded culverts. While Go with the Flow is an inexpensive title, The Slow Road is available for free with your Kindle Unlimited subscription, as are most of Jerry Young's titles. Thank you so much Mr. Young!
In The Slow Road, the young couple are working extra jobs, saving everything they have, budgeting for survival. The major portion of the book is well digging, using PVC pipes, and water. The well pump is a recycled lawn motor, 3HP. So one learns a great deal about survival techniques from these various stories. They do not have a lot of money, he is a recovered drinker, and their home is a 40 foot trailer. But they are very hard workers, and save every bit they can to plan ahead.
One of the important elements of Mr. Young's titles: Don't expect to survive if you do not work hard, be willing to trade the immediate reward for the long term plan. But you do, you have a decent chance for success, even if is to survive a tornado or an earthquake.
A really excellent story of survival told with Mr. Young’s usual calm good humor and uncertainty about the future. Very much recommended.

Intriguing page turner.

I really enjoyed Rebound it has to be said - it had a strange but highly addictive vibe to it and whilst it was not without its faults for me as a reader, it did have huge readability factor in the "Just one more chapter before I go to sleep" stakes. Yes it kept me up at night...

This book is all about Anna really. A strong independant woman who makes some strange choices then has to go with the consequential flow so to speak - her life gets turned on its head and everywhere she looks odd things are happening.

The author has written a psychological thriller with a twisty dark heart and somehow managed to make it read slightly differently to the norm even though a lot of the standard tropes are in here. I admired that and it made for a great story. I'm loathe to tell you too much about the plot lest I give things away - but Aga Lesiewicz throws everything and the kitchen sink into the suspect pool, making Anna's state of mind and slow spiral into a dark place the reason for it. It is very cleverly done.

It fairly bangs along at an alarming rate as Anna faces fallout from her impulsive actions - occasionally (and this is where the slight fault was for me) it headed into extreme annoyance at the character territory in the one or two times that a little cliche was used. Why for example, do people NEVER answer their phones when that most important call comes. They answer every call ever. But not that one. Either the phone has just died (having never died before) or they have an argument in their own head to ignore the obvious or whatever, there are various standard plot uses that can be applied- there was a little of that here which I shook my head at but for the MOST part it was terrifically compelling and a fascinating character study.

It is dark, sexy, unrelenting and has a plethora of well drawn characters for you to suspect, love, hate and the rest - all the hallmarks of a top notch bit of storytelling in a novel sitting inside rather overcrowded genre right now. The resolution was well applied and fit in nicely with the rest and overall I'm quite happy to recommend this as one of the good ones. I'll look forward with interest to what this author comes up with next.

Wow! This book was everything I look for in a good psychological thriller and then some!
It hit the ground running, took my breath away and kept me gripped the entire time I was reading it.
Anna has just split up with James. She feels the relationship has run its course and that he is a little too "safe" for her. This new found freedom seems to unleash a monster within her and she finds herself doing things that she previously wouldn't have considered doing, regrets soon after but repeats. We've all been there - maybe not doing exactly what she is doing but in our own ways it's a familiar pattern to most. Then her actions start appearing to be the catalyst for other unspeakable things that happen and Anna starts to notice more weird things happening in her life. Are these things really all connected or is her hyper-vigilance just running into overdrive and making connections where there really are just coincidences.
I do have to admit that I didn't really like Anna. I found her to be a bit shallow and needy, especially with her friends but, she does have an awesome dog Wispa, so she can't be all bad. The other characters are all very well defined and just as easy to emote with. There were red herrings thrown in aplenty with regard to some of the characters' behaviour which made for an exciting journey reading the book and guessing who the stranger was, who was stalking Anna and were they the same person!
The story goes along at a fair lick and keeps the intensity high throughout. There is not much respite for the poor reader along the way which left me exhausted when I finished but, that said, I was also very satisfied too!
There is enough description in the book to complement the narrative but not too much that it is distracting which also adds to the tension generated. The format of the book was also very intriguing. We started X days before the event and counted down to the "event" and then switched to X days after, counting up until the end of the book.
I find it very hard to believe that this is a d�but novel, such was the overall quality which in my opinion is better that a lot of well established authors I have read. I will definitely be adding this author to my watch list.

I read this book in one day, that usually indicates a book I really enjoy. However this one still has me in two minds.

Anna is the main character. She works in TV production but her office is undergoing reorganisation which leads to her work life becoming far more complicated than usual. She owns a dog, Wispa, and regularly jogs with him on the local heath. It is here she meets a mysterious stranger, and her life starts to change.

Without going into too much detail Anna and the guy, who she names The Dior Man, have several encounters. These encounters lead Anna to make rash decisions which could jeapordise her life. But she is so caught up in the moment that she doesn't seem to give the danger a second thought. She is allowing what her mind is telling her to be overridden by her heart.

Everything builds up well, there are a lot of different characters introduced. Some of these characters could be the instigator of Anna's troubles, but in order to figure that out we must first make our way through a maze of truths, lies and hatred.

My main concern throughout the story is the fact that Anna doesn't seem to possess common sense a lot of the time. She goes against the norm, risks her life and lives of others in the process, and can't seem to accept that her decisions may, for once, be wrong.

It is a dark read made up of two parts. The first part focuses on Anna and Dior Man, whereas the second part focuses more on the whodunnit side of things. I had figured out well before the end who was responsible for both parts of the mystery, and that did spoil it a bit for me, hence the lower rating. But this was a good read nonetheless.

Miss the good old days when Prof. Art used to grill us over all those theories=) This book is not meant for the everyday reader, if you are genuinely interested in learning about the fungibility (gotcha) of force, feel free to dive into it.

Evidence based and current - includes research, theory and practice application

This is a good review of fetal monitoring using updated evidence-based standards. The references are up to date, current terminology is explained and out of date terminology is noted along with reasons (e.g. lack of evidence) for discontinuing said terminology. Each chapter builds upon information in previous chapters in a logical and succinct manner.

One specific comment that I have: Chapter 6 describes the 3-tier fetal heart rate classification system as well as an ABCD plan for FHR assessment and management. Miller refers to and summarizes the 2013 Clark et al article regarding management of Category II FHR tracings - and while the summary is helpful, it is long and wordy. Perhaps for copyright reasons, the Clark et al algorithms could not be included in the Miller book; the algorithms are visually more easy to follow than are the long narratives (particularly on pages 156 - 158).

Lastly, while it is generally understood that the focus of the book is on electronic fetal heart rate monitoring, it would be helpful to expand the chapter dedicated to intermittent auscultation. I'd love to see an analysis of different auscultation methods ranging from the hand-held doppler to perhaps the age old Pinard! As well, it would be great to include a visual algorithm detailing how to manage abnormalities ascertained with IA.

In summary, this is a great resource for professionals who care for pregnant women. The book is pocket sized and could easily be used (almost) at the bedside. It is a valuable addition to my library.

Great resource for any health care provider in OB.

This book was extremely helpful. I purchased it before I took Lisa Miller's EFM advanced review course and I definitely benefitted from reading it ahead of time. The practice review in the back of the book was a good guideline of where I needed to focus my study. I recommend this pocket guide no matter what your OB experience is.

Great for preventing the Summer Slide!

This book is great. We've used other brand workbooks in the past and this one is by far the best I've tried. My kids don't like it much - we use it as a time filler in the summer to keep their skills sharp while they are out of school. It seems to match up well to what the kids are learning/have learned in school. The pages are laid out nicely and are easy to follow - I like that there is an answer key in the back just in case. I will buy this brand again next year. This mom approves!

We love this workbook. We are currently homeschooling my six grade daughter and using primarily online programs. I wanted to find an adequate workbook that covered all the years curriculum and would still hold her interest. So far she seems to be enjoying the work and completing it. I'm enjoying it with her. Will be buying the seventh grade workbook if we are still homeschooling next year thank you so much.

We homeschool our kids and I was getting so frustrated making my own worksheets. We did research, decided to try the Brain Quest books, and I am so glad we did! They're fantastic. Colorful, fun and engaging, the kids prefer them to "mom's boring worksheets". Also, with a degree in education, I feel qualified to say that the material itself is solid for the grade levels. We'll be buying more from Brain Quest as the kids progress!

Expect Funny Bits!

My recent foray into "chick lit" hit the funny spot when I found Neal Doran. I finished reading Dan Taylor Is Giving Up on Women, with a laugh on my lips and was happy to learn that his next book, Not What They Were Expecting would soon be released.

Though this book got off to a slow start, once I reached Chapter 10, I was sucked into Book World (you know, that place where nothing else exists except you and the book, and maybe a glass of chilled Pinot Grigio). James and Rebecca are going to have a baby! At a time when they should be basking in the joy of soon becoming parents, all hell breaks loose.

Rebecca's parents reveal that public restrooms and policemen aren't a good combination. James loses his job and his self-confidence. Communication between the couple breaks down as secrets are revealed...

Mr. Doran writes really witty dialogue and describes day-to-day activities with a fresh perspective. His characters are believable. Their turmoil becomes your turmoil. Their triumphs belong to you.

So, if you like odd mid-wives, deceit, horror films, pre-natal scans, ice cream, questionable art, and playing house at IKEA ("I'd like to show you my environmentally friendly cardboard laptop and television" - Chapter 23), then you will love this book.

Original and Heartwarming Story!

I really enjoyed reading this novel. The vast majority of stories out there seem to be about couples getting together and then the marriage happens and the novel is over. (At least that I read.) This gives a glimpse into life a few years after the wedding has happened and when a couple decides to start to expand their family.

Even though they have their many, many quarrels the interactions between James and Rebecca were very sweet at the times when they weren't arguing. I wouldn't really call this a light read as there are some rather serious moments throughout the entire book but like a good movie it has it's comic relief moments so it's not too intense. Overall, highly recommended.

Rating: at least PG-13 (a lot of profanity and the couple is married so there's intimacy but nothing's really described.)

Recommendations: If you liked this try his other novel Dan Taylor is Giving Up on Women. Also if you liked this I recommend A Very Accidental Love Story.

Comedy that captures stresses of expecting--and then some

Having just recently read Neal Doran's first book, 'Dan Taylor Is Giving up on Women,' I preordered this one. It's a romantic comedy with plenty of conflict and drama propelling the story along. This one is told mostly from the perspectives of James and Rebecca, a married London couple expecting their first child. As with Doran's first book, it should appeal to both male and female readers.

While James and Rebecca are ecstatic about their pending arrival, they are hardly immune to the stresses that most expectant parents face. And then some. Rebecca is worried about her Dad's arrest for indecency at a public restroom; James is even more stressed by losing his job as an accountant when his company makes him redundant. Both men have secrets that come out eventually. Both make decisions that make things worse before they get better.

There was a lot more to 'Not What They Were Expecting' than I expected. For a while I was wondering why Rebecca's father's issues were so prominent, though eventually they became a central enough component to the plot that it became obvious. Both sets of parents are very different, with Rebecca's conservative mum and dad set off against James' militantly liberal ones. Maggie may seem a bit over the top at first, but the more I read, the more I recognized her in people I know who need to spend a little less time trying to save the planet and a little more time having fun.

Having a relatively young son myself, it's not so long since we went through the childbirth experience: the highs and lows of doctor appointments and mood fluctuations, all of which are well captured here. Fortunately I didn't have to deal with many of the other obstacles thrown at James and Rebecca. It's more fun to read about someone else going through all that.

Having gone with 4 stars on 'Dan Taylor,' I'll round up to a 5 this time around. The story is slightly meatier and it really moved along, especially over the second half of the book.
